The Town of Luray is preparing to host a full day of patriotic celebration on Saturday, July 4, highlighted by the vibrant “Downtown Get Down: Food, Tunes & Booms” event along the Hawksbill Greenway. Featuring live music, family-friendly activities, and a spectacular fireworks display, the celebration promises fun for residents and visitors of all ages.
The Independence Day celebration begins in the morning with the 4th of July Children’s Parade, set for 10:00 a.m. at Inn Lawn Park. This beloved tradition invites families to gather and enjoy a spirited showcase of community pride and creativity.
Later in the afternoon, the town will host the Luray VA250 Dedication at 4:00 p.m. at the North Loop of the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway, marking an important moment in the community’s ongoing celebration of American history and heritage.
The main event, Downtown Get Down, kicks off at 5:00 p.m. and continues until 9:00 p.m. at the Hawksbill Greenway, including the Mechanic Street Lot and Ruffner Plaza.
Attendees can expect an energetic festival atmosphere filled with:
- Food trucks offering a variety of local favorites
- Lawn games and inflatables for kids and families
- A unique appearance by Charleen Johnston, a stilt walker, adding a whimsical touch to the celebration
The event will also feature the popular duck races, complete with prizes, scheduled for 5:50 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., giving spectators two chances to enjoy the fun and cheer on their favorites.
Music lovers will have plenty to enjoy, with performances beginning at 6:00 p.m. across two stages:
- Mechanic Street Stage: Featuring Everyday People
- Ruffner Plaza Stage: Featuring Raised on Analog
These performances are expected to bring high-energy entertainment and a festive soundtrack to the evening’s activities.
The celebration will conclude with a dazzling fireworks display at the Luray Fairgrounds (15 Fairlane Drive). Visitors are advised to enter through Gate 1 at the DMV entrance.

- Fireworks begin at approximately 9:25 p.m.
The fireworks will also be visible from the Hawksbill Greenway, allowing attendees to enjoy the show without leaving the Downtown Get Down festivities.
