We're going back to Zamunda!

After 31 years, Coming to America is finally getting its long-awaited sequel. The 1988 cult classic romantic comedy — which gifted audiences with its hilarious tale of an African Prince who traveled to America, specifically Queens, New York, to find love and escape his arranged marriage — is returning with lead actor Eddie Murphywho has already signed on to reprise his role as Akeem.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward," Eddie said in a statement. "We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite (Craig recently directed Eddie in Dolemite Is My Name) and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen."

Craig will direct the film, and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is rewriting a script by original Coming to America writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield. Eddie is also returning to the producer chair as he is set to produce the film along with Kevin Misher and Kenya, who is also the executive producer.

According to Deadline, the sequel will center on Akeem's long lost son. After learning of his heir's existence, the Prince of Zamunda will return to America to meet him. While all the stars of the original cast have not yet signed on to reprise their roles for Coming to America 2, "the intention is to bring back them all back," including Arsenio Hall, who played Prince Akeem's aide, Semmi; Shari Headley, who played Lisa and won Akeem's heart; John Amos, who played her father Cleo, and was the famous owner of McDowell's; and James Earl Jones, who played King Jaffe.

While there is no start date for the highly-anticipated sequel, the hope is that production begins in 2019.
