The Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA is gearing up for its busiest season, with a surge of cats, kittens, and puppies arriving at the shelter. Aaron Cleveland, Director of Engagement, shared that about 75% of the shelter's annual kitten intakes happen between May and September, bringing nearly 900 to 1,000 cats through its doors each year.
To help find homes for these pets, the RHSPCA is offering discounted adoption fees through May 15 as part of the Bissell Foundation's "Empty the Shelters" event. During this time, adult cats and dogs can be adopted for $70, which includes exams, spay/neuter services, microchipping, and vaccinations. Puppy and kitten adoption fees remain at $250 and $100. The shelter is also hosting a special dog adoption event on May 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Steven Toyota in Harrisonburg, just ahead of Mother’s Day.
The RHSPCA is also calling for more foster families to help make room for the incoming pets. Those interested in fostering or adopting can visit their website for more information. Your support can make all the difference for these animals in need.
