James Madison University will host one of the regional rounds of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) in 2025, a high-stakes, winner-take-all competition with a $1 million prize on the line. The games will take place at the Atlantic Union Bank Center from July 18–23.

The JMU-based team, Founding Fathers, will serve as the host squad for the eight-team regional. This marks the team’s third appearance in the tournament, having previously competed in 2021 and 2022. Leading the roster will be recent Dukes star Mark Freeman, who had a standout senior season averaging 15.8 points per game and earning First Team All-Sun Belt recognition. More player announcements for the Founding Fathers will be revealed soon on their social media @foundingfatherstbt.

This regional will replace the one originally planned for the University of Virginia. JMU Athletic Director Matt Roan expressed excitement about hosting, noting the event’s potential to bring energy, exposure, and economic benefits to the university and the surrounding area.

The winner of the James Madison Regional will advance to the TBT Quarterfinals on July 29. Semifinals are scheduled for July 31, with the championship game taking place on August 3, where one team will walk away with the $1 million prize.

Other 2025 TBT regional host cities include Lexington, Louisville, Syracuse, Kansas City, Wichita, Charleston (WV), and Indianapolis. Tickets for the James Madison Regional and all other TBT events can be found at tbthoops.com.
