Nina Dobrev and Shaun White reportedly were on different paths prior to their split.
The Vampire Diaries alum and the retired professional snowboarder recently called off their engagement and went their separate ways after five years together and nearly one year after announcing they were engaged to be married. A person close to the former couple told The Associated Press that the parting was a mutual decision.
An insider told the Daily Mail on Thursday (September 11) that the split wasn't because of any dramatic scenario; rather they had differing plans for the immediate future. White was reportedly interested in starting a family while Dobrev wanted to focus on her career, per Page Six.
"Shaun is retired and has had his last Olympics, he was very ready for marriage and kids and all that comes from that," the source said, adding, "Nina was on board but also very interested in seeing where her acting career was going to go, as that was and is very important to her."
The insider continued, "He was gearing up to be a father and wanting that life. As much as they had the same ideals and wanted to enjoy the same ride, they naturally couldn't come together on a common goal and that was the strain on their relationship."
The former couple went public with their relationship in 2020 after quarantining together during the COVID-19 lockdown, and got engaged in October 2024. They were last seen together in public last month; however, Dobrev was spotted without her engagement ring while at the Toronto International Film Festival last week.
