The Harrisonburg Police Department is calling on local residents to get involved by joining its Police Auxiliary Unit, a volunteer program that assists officers during community events and daily operations.

According to Lt. Todd Miller, the unit provides citizens with comprehensive training before they step into the role. Volunteers help with traffic control, crowd safety, and other essential duties during major gatherings across the city.

“These volunteers give us the extra support we need to keep events running smoothly and safely,” Miller said. “They truly make a difference in how we serve the community.”

Anyone interested in volunteering with the Police Auxiliary Unit can find more information and apply through the City of Harrisonburg’s website.
